I enjoyed the book. It was easy to read and it is a reminder to be grateful for everything in our lives. There are exercises after each chapter so that you can write down what you are grateful for after every topic. Then you can meditate during the day on your favorite gratitude phrase to remind yourself to be grateful and for it to become more of a habit. If you can create a habit in twenty-one days, why not build a gratitude habit to enhance your happiness? As Rhonda Byrne told the world in her best-selling book The Secret based on the Law of Attraction, what you focus on is what you will attract into your life. The author of this book encourages readers to be grateful and to concentrate on what they have in their lives, not what they do not have. If you appreciate what you have, the things you wish for will find their way to you. The book provides resources and support to ‘grow your gratitude muscles’. Exercises are provided so that the reader can interact with the book’s content. There is space for you to write your own gratitude statements in the print version, or you can highlight the individual lines and use the notes function to type your own statements into the e-book version. The author rightfully points out that no one person should compare his or herself to anyone else as our circumstances and life experiences are all different. To improve your life, it is always better to start from a position of gratitude for what you have – don’t worry about what anyone else has. This book is simply written so that the reader doesn’t feel he is getting bogged down in detail. The message of gratitude is repeated often enough so that you don’t lose track of what it is that you are trying to achieve. If you wish to release the negativity in your life, this book would be a good place to start.
This is an unbiased review of a free review copy of the book. The premise (which is not exactly new) is that you need to practice gratitude to feel happy and change your mental outlook from cup half empty to cup half full - in other words you have to act happy to be happy. Do buy this book if you are new to the concept of keeping a gratitude journal and would like your hand held in a step-by-step approach to changing your life outlook through gratitude. A large portion of the book is the author's personal gratitude statements offered as options or examples for the reader to adopt or make their own. The division into various subjects, as well as the numerous personal examples, could be helpful for people who struggle to find things to be grateful for. Do not buy the book if you have a basic understanding of daily gratitude work, or if you don't take well to an extreme hand-holding approach to self help. I fall into the latter category and personally did not find much new or helpful in the book.
Interesting book...great topic
Indeed a beautiful book on gratitude. Somehow it has changed the way I think and react to situations and problems. The thing I loved the most about this book is the exercises at the end of each section which makes you think deeper. After reading this book I am trying to build a habit of thanking for things that I already have.
This is a great book with excellent tools for "exercising your gratitude muscles." It gives simple to use exercises for the reader to practice. The book is also full of inspirational quotes that demonstrate the effectiveness of gratitude. In addition, the book covers a wide array of areas for gratitude to be applied that people may not consider. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a guide to improving their life.
The exercises in books that I have read in the past rarely have inspired me to complete them, but this book was different. I made about five pages of notes that I will keep and refer to in the future. In his book, Ged Cusack gives hundreds of examples in various categories of what makes him grateful. His examples and his invitation to do the same inspired me to do likewise. I found that, indeed, thinking about what makes me grateful, also makes me happy. This book is also filled with inspirational quotes and encourages readers not to buy into the “keep up with the Joneses” mentality.
