"Vidal's Honor" is a captivating book. It's rich in history and beautiful descriptions of the Spanish countryside where much of the story takes place. Honor and her husband have a very unusal marriage, in that almost all of it has been spent surrounded by an army and dying soldiers as the couple travels with the English army during 1812. The author's knowledge of the time period is obvious as well as interesting. And in the middle of all of this, there is a love story unfolding that will draw you in and hold your attention as you wait to see what will happen next. I highly recommend this book!Tags : Vidal's Honor - Kindle edition by Sherry Gloag. Vidal Honor edition by Sherry Gloag Romance eBooks Reviews
it was very interesting. the characters were believable. at the Kringle Ball when all the soldiers appeared and extol all the wonderful things Honor had done for them bought tears and the best part when the Capitain told them how she had saved his foot from being amputated. then berated all the people who had turned against Honor and shamed them.Happy ending when Vidal proposed marriage
This wasn't what I thought more an adventure story than a regency romance but I still liked it a lot. It was exciting and the mystery wasn't too difficult. My favorite scene was the "honeymooners" in the inn that was funny but you really did wonder if they'd be caught. This is a good read.
If you like historical romance (Regency), you'll definitely enjoy VIDAL'S HONOR. But this novel by Sherry Gloag is more than a simple love story. It's also filled with mystery, adventure, and intrigue with a strong female character. I had fun reading this engrossing, beautifully written tale.
Vidal was sent to Spain to bring home Honor from the battle that killed her husband. Dev had been his best friend. The treachery and danger they faced rekindled the attraction they once had. There is a lot of action and a good love story. The book is very enjoyable.
In terms of detail, this was way better than many Regencies on the market these days. The plot twists are really convoluted, not at all the usual fans/balls/romantic intrigue frou-frou clogging so much of the genre. Nicely done!
When her spy husband is killed, Honor must somehow make her way from war torn Spain to England without getting caught. She cannot know who to trust as she learns more about the work her husband did for their country.
This book has a fantastic plot that kept me in its grip until the very end. The secondary characters were highly entertaining. Historical details, which I love, were spot on.
However, I just couldn't feel any kind of connection with the hero, Vidal. I couldn't see what attracts Honor's attraction as the story progresses. Honor herself came across as....too good. She was ok as a character, but wasn't especially memorable.
I would recommend this to readers who are looking for an unusual Regency story.
Lord [Devlin[ and Lady [Honor] Beaumont are a happily married couple. When Devlin joins Wellington's army in Spain,
Honor follows. Devlin spies for England and aids Wellington.
She nurses injured soldiers and comforts the dying. Her kindness brings the reword of many friends.
Witnessing the abduction, by men dressed as British soldiers, of her husband horrifies Honor.
For as long as she can, she clings to hope. Devlin's batman Phillipe gives her no time to
think. Instead, he tells her he promised her husband he'd protect her should anything happen
to Dev. Phillipe takes her to his village and hides her there.
When harboring her from Napoleon and Joseph becomes too dangerous, he sends her off with two of
his man, promising he'll meet her and escort her to safety.
Meanwhile, in England a member of the Admiralty approaches Charles Vidal to go to Spain to
escort Honor home. Charles is a good friend to Devlin and was once his rival for Honor's love.
In Spain, Vidal joins Honor and two people she met on her journey. They continue their trek
to safety. Along the way they encounter friends, spies and foes. Betrayals arouse distrust in
Honor. Who can she trust?
Villains, driven by jealousy and/or greed, work to bring Honor down. Some want to see her hang and
portray her as a spy for Napoleon.
With the help of his family and friends in high places, Vidal exonerates Honor. They rekindle their love.
Those who enjoy the language of Regencies and excellent characterization will love Vidal's Honor. I
give an extra star for superb writing and wonderful characters.
